The Amazing Acro-Cats - A Real Cat Circus

Step aside Ringling Bros., there's a new circus in town - the Acro-Cats!

I discovered the Acro-Cats show during my December, 2018 weekender to New Orleans.  I couldn't help but notice the large purple tour bus covered in cat faces and "discreet" cat mobile (pictured below).  Of course, I was intrigued, so I pulled out my iPhone and Googled it.  To my delight, the Acro-Cats had a short Vegas-esque residency in NOLA and I was able to snag the last ticket for the Saturday evening show.  Footnote:  this show was SOLD OUT opening weekend.  I had no clue what a cat circus was, but I sure as hell was going to find out.

The Amazing Acro-Cats is no joke!

Later that evening, I arrived at the theatre (that was actually the back end of a bar), ordered a beer and found a seat.  During my trip to NOLA, I stayed in the guest house of the Crescent City Cat Club's Airbnb, so the owner, Eshyah, joined me.  The Jingle Cats soundtrack (cats "singing" Christmas songs) was being pumped into the speakers for all to enjoy prior to showtime.  Adults and children alike walked in adorned with cat ears and cat-tastic shirts, looking for a seat toward the front and waiting with enthusiasm and anticipation.  Then the lights dimmed...

Ladies and gentlemen, what ensued was pure hilarity.  I witnessed cats pushing shopping carts adorned with Christmas bows, cats skateboards, cats jumping through hoops, cats playing the cowbell, cats pushing "Applause" buttons, cats ringing bells, cats pushing one another around in sleighs and a cat raising his paw when asked "Who is number one?"  Everything was so random and yes, oh so real.

In addition to the amusing cat circus, you also get to enjoy the music of The Rock Cats - an almost all-cat band.  The Rock Cats consist of a drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, trumpeter, saxophonist, windchimer and a cowbell player.  Only one member of the band is not a cat - Cluck Norris, the symbol playing chicken.  Yes, this is all for real.

We only have a short amount of time in this lifetime, so make yours worthwhile and add seeing the Acro-Cats and the Rock Cats show to your list of things to do before you die.  It'll make your life completely purr-fect!
